Belfast delegation set for another successful year at property investment conference
Published on 12th March 2018
A delegation of over 80 Belfast business leaders will travel to Cannes, France today, where they will present a portfolio of major real estate investment and development opportunities in the city to a potential audience of over 28,000 international property investors, developers and occupiers at MIPIM- the world’s largest international property investment conference.
Among the real estate projects being presented will be Weavers Cross, the proposed major Transport Hub for Belfast, as well as Belfast Waterside Regeneration Project in the East Bank area, the Giant’s Park at the North Foreshore and Signature Living’s latest hotel developments in the city.
Returning to MIPIM for the third year in a row, the delegation made up of over 35 supporting private and public sector organisations will host 15 unique events across the three days of the conference. Each event has been carefully designed to highlight a range of key strengths that underpin Belfast’s strong investment proposition, including: Talent, Tax, Technology & Innovation, Locations, Fast Growth Sectors, Track Record for FDI and Quality of Life.
Jackie Henry, Chair of the private sector taskforce leading the Belfast at MIPIM delegation, said that the event presents an invaluable opportunity for Belfast to showcase itself as a growing economic powerhouse, full of ambition, energy and investment opportunities.
“MIPIM 2018 will be about building upon the excellent success achieved through our attendance at the conference in the past two years. We have already secured record financial support of £300,000 – 80% of which has been funded from private sector sponsors,” she said.
“Our largest-ever delegation of over 80 are ready to champion Belfast as an outstanding city in which to live, work, visit, learn and, importantly, invest. As well as having the opportunity to cultivate new and long- lasting business relationships with a vast array of project owners who attend MIPIM, they will enthusiastically showcase the very best that Belfast has to offer investors across a selective programme of engaging events both on and off stand.
“We want to create a real buzz around the Belfast stand this year, so alongside this programme of real estate project showcase events, we will be participating in a series of ‘special interest’ slots. This will include a panel session on the creation of new city neighbourhoods, chaired by Sir Howard Bernstein and a session featuring Eddie Irvine, focusing on the key accelerations of Belfast’s growth and success.
“With the support of Queen’s University Belfast, we will also be bringing one of our electric DeLorean cars, built in Belfast in the early 80s and made famous by the Back to the Future trilogy – demonstrating Belfast’s reputation for world-class talent and technological innovation.”
According to Cllr Mairead O’Donnell, Chair of Belfast City Council’s City Growth & Regeneration Committee, MIPIM 2018 offers Belfast the opportunity to show off how far the city has come on an international stage.
“We want to emphasise all the impressive opportunities that Belfast has to offer investors and allow them to witness first- hand the exciting momentum taking place around new construction, infrastructure, economic and cultural projects in the city. They will be left with no doubt that the city has an extremely bright and vibrant future.
She added: “MIPIM has proved itself as an extremely important and successful platform for attracting international investment. It is a great example of how the strong collaboration between Belfast City Council and the private sector of the city has provided the optimum environment for businesses to thrive. For the first time, this year’s Belfast’s delegation will include Signature Living – the Liverpool headquartered hotel developer and operator that first encountered Belfast at MIPIM in 2016 and has since committed to developing at least four hotels in the city, including the George Best Hotel and Lanyon Hotel.
“I have no doubt that MIPIM 2018 will be an equally rewarding trip for all involved, and that the collective hard work and effort of the delegation will pay off for Belfast in the months ahead.”
